Information below is for pupils in Year 6 in the academic year 2024/25:
From Sunday 1 September 2024
An information leaflet is distributed to parents/carers by primary schools or posted for Kirklees children attending a primary school in another local authority.

Applications can be made from this date. All applications must be made online.
September and October 2024
Open evenings are held for the majority of secondary schools in Kirklees.
Secondary school open evenings available via Kirklees Council website.
Thursday 31 October 2024
This is the closing date for applications. Remember that a late application can severely reduce your chances of obtaining a place at your preferred school.
Monday 3 March 2025
Parents/carers can log on to the Kirklees parent portal from 08:30 am to see their offer of a school place and an email offer will be sent during the day to the email address the parent/carer used when submitting their application.
Monday 31 March 2025
The last day for requesting an appeal for starting community and voluntary controlled schools in September 2025. Academies, free schools, trust schools and voluntary aided schools may have different closing dates for appeals. You must contact them directly.
May 2025 onwards

Heckmondwike Grammar School (HGS) Selection for September 2025
Please be aware that Heckmondwike Grammar school have confirmed the following dates for admission for pupils in September 2025.
This is for pupils who are in Y6 in the academic Year 2024/25:
Open Evenings: 19th June 2023 & 20th June 2024
Deadline for submitting online registration form to HGS for entrance exams: 24th June 2024
Entrance Examination for HGS: 16th September 2024
Target date for parents to be informed of the outcome of the entrance exam: 16th October 2024
Final date for submission of common application form: 31st October 2024
